This years annual Clevedon & District Charity Shield tournament was held on Saturday (11th) at the indoor bowls rinks at Mizzymead Recreation Centre. A total of 12 teams took part representing five local outdoor bowls clubs.

The competition is held each year between the local outdoor bowls clubs just ahead of the start of the summer outdoor season. Clubs enter teams of four bowlers who compete for the trophy (and bragging rights) along with the honour of donating all funds raised to their nominated charity.
Competition was fierce in the early rounds with some very close games including one game having to go to an extra end to decide the fourth semi finalist with Portishead winning through. Nailsea Bowls Club had great success all day with three of their teams winning through to the semi finals.
The strength in depth of the Nailsea players showed with the final being an all Nailsea affair. The eventual winners were the Nailsea B team squad, skippered by Roger Chappel.
The charity funds raised will be donated to the Nailsea captains charity which is Great Western Air Ambulance.
